What live carpark availability can tell you
A published live feed can help compare carparks before you travel. Counts may change while you drive and never reserve a space.
Three useful checks
- Check the data timestamp. Cached information is not a new observation.
- Use the app’s confirmed-spaces filter only for carparks with a live feed.
- Keep a second parking option nearby.
No live data does not mean full
Some malls, operators and campus carparks do not publish a supported live feed. Their locations, reference rates and navigation can still be useful. The app labels these entries rather than inventing a space count.
Read the count, type and timestamp together
A space count is useful only in context. Check that it belongs to the carpark you selected and the relevant lot type, then read its update time. A recently fetched response can still contain an older observation from the source. Refreshing your screen does not guarantee that the operator has measured availability again.
How to compare two possible destinations
Suppose one carpark reports two spaces and another reports twenty. That can inform your backup plan, but neither count promises a space when you arrive. Travel time, queues, simultaneous arrivals and restricted bays can change the outcome. Compare the route and access notes as well as the number, and keep another suitable carpark in mind before leaving.
Do not interpret a percentage without considering the underlying total. Ten available spaces in a small facility and ten in a large facility can feel very different at the entrance. Counts help with a decision; they are not a queue-length prediction or a reservation system.
Zero, unavailable and old data mean different things
- Zero reported spaces: the source returned a zero count for that observation. It may change later.
- No supported feed: the catalogue has reference information, but no confirmed current count. The carpark is not thereby full.
- Unavailable response: the service could not supply usable information. A network error is not a new zero reading.
- Older observation: treat it as a planning reference with reduced confidence, even if the page itself has just loaded.
Access checks remain necessary
A reported space count does not establish that you can use a particular bay. Check visitor access, opening hours, reserved areas and vehicle-height restrictions separately. For a hospital appointment or other time-sensitive visit, leave time to switch to the backup and walk to the destination.
